Linus
Torvalds a computer scientist, born in Helsinki Finland on the 28th of
December. He is best known as "that guy that created the kernel" for
Linux operating systems. He attended the University of Helsinki and started
with the UNIX basics. He created the original source code and released it for
free making him a hero among his peers. Today Linux is the leader when
it comes to the practice of reprograming your own operating systems. Torvalds received
a Master’s degree from the Department of Computer science at the University of
Helsinki. A short two years later he then received a honor doctor status from
Stockholm University and in 2000 he obtained an honor for alma mater. Torvalds
started off as a typical programmer whose hobby became one of the widely used
source codes. He has been programing for about 20 years. When he wrote the code
Torvalds wanted to call the Kernel he created “Freax” pronounced freaks. It was
a combination of free freak and the letter X to indicate it is a UNIX like
product. But unfortunately his friend Ari Lemmke L who administered the
server where the kernel was made and downloaded named the directory Linux, WHAT
A HATER!
Linux
in a nutshell is an operating system. It’s the software and essentials on a
computer that makes applications and the computer operator to access devices
located on the computer and performs certain tasks. The operator or operating
system also referred to as O.S relays instructions to different parts of the
computer. To sum it all up Linux is very similar to other operating systems
such as Windows and OSX. It can be found on and powers everything from stock
exchange to mobile phones to giant computers and consumer devices. Windows is
expensive compared to Linux but Linux requires a bit of knowledge to operate.

This is a very interesting and insightful blog. I fully enjoyed reading it and the fact that you put your own spin on the blog. I was not aware of where the operating system got the name that it uses until I read the blog. I hope that out generation is able to produce some one as brilliant as Linus Torvalds, but hey, it is up to us as students to aspire to be the next ones to take it upon our selves to do something as great as this.
ReplyDeleteI am wondering why you misspelled kernel in your title.
ReplyDeleteI like the fact that linus' friend betrayed him, given what a *^%*&% of a guy Linus is in person. If you have no idea what I am talking about, visit my blog. I also like the name Linux better than Freax. Gives more credit to the person who made it.
